New World Wanaka Partners with Red Bull Defiance
One of Wanaka’s largest businesses has joined together with Red Bull Defiance to support competitors at the event.
New World Wanaka has signed on as the official nutrition sponsor of the fifth edition of Red Bull Defiance that returns to Wanaka on the 19th and 20th January 2019. Considered one of the most challenging adventure races in the world, the event attracts over 400 multisport competitors.
“Red Bull Defiance is held over two days with teams traversing, kayaking and mountain biking across 154km so it’s imperative that competitors have access to really good nutritious food and drink to fuel them through the weekend,” says race director Bex Law.
“We are thrilled to welcome New World Wanaka to the event with the provision of food for aid stations dotted around the course and for the volunteers who work hard over the weekend.”
Red Bull Defiance travels through several of Wanaka’s iconic high-country stations including Minaret Station and Criffel Station and traverses Rocky Mountain, Mt Alpha and Roy’s Peak.
“Race equipment such as kayaks and mountain bikes are moved around the course to each transition area,” says Bex. “As part of the nutrition sponsorship New World Wanaka is also providing duffle bags for competitors gear which is a significant piece of race kit that the teams get to keep,” says Bex.
New World Wanaka is pleased to be involved with the high-profile sporting event and says it’s a great fit for the town bringing a significant number of people to the area who enjoy outdoor activities.
Located in central Wanaka for several years now, the supermarket is focused on providing an extensive variety of fresh food, essential supplies and service to locals and visitors seven days a week.
