Today Skylight is marking the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week with the launch of a new web-series showcasing
young people’s perspectives on resilience.
The web-series features documentary-style interviews with six young people who share their experiences, insight and
wisdom about how they have overcome tough times in their lives.
Skylight’s Fundraising Manager Stephanie Garvey says she hopes the web-series will encourage people of all ages to talk
about resilience more openly, and spark wider conversations about mental health issues in Aotearoa New Zealand.
“Creating spaces and opportunities for our young people to share their experiences openly, while feeling safe and
supported to do so, makes a huge difference in improving mental health outcomes in Aotearoa.
“Our youth and rangatahi want to tell their stories and have a strong voice, so it’s up to us to listen and to support
them to do this.
“We were so impressed with the knowledge and depth of personal awareness that our participants had. They knew what they
needed to be well and knew what they needed when things got tough.
“Resilience is such an integral part of wellbeing, and we’re really proud to launch the web-series to coincide with this
year’s Mental Health Awareness Week. We look forward to the conversations and progress that will arise from it,” says
Stephanie.
The web-series was supported by a generous grant from The Todd Foundation and a partnership between Skylight Trust and
Film for Change Aotearoa.
