Three’s Comedy Pilot Week Line-up Revealed
In a New Zealand television first, Three, with the support of New Zealand On Air, is proud to bring you Comedy Pilot
Week, screening the pilot episode of five brand new Kiwi sitcoms over four fantastically funny nights.
Mean Mums, Sidelines, The Lonely Hearts Motel, Golden Boy and Mangere Vice are the freshly-created, one-of-a-kind, and most importantly laugh-inducing programs that will premiere on Three and
ThreeNow from September 23.
In this unique and innovative concept, viewers are encouraged to have their say using the #ComedyPilotWeek hashtag
across the Three Facebook
page and Twitter
Reviews, ratings, and fan feedback will help decide which of these comedies will get the green light to be turned into a
full series and return to New Zealand screens in 2019.
Chief Content Officer Andrew Szusterman said: “Local Comedy is and has always been part of the DNA of Three. Right now
New Zealand has an incredible range of funny, innovative and groundbreaking comedy creatives who could all give
Hollywood a run for its money. Comedy Pilot Week is an amazing opportunity to harness the talent of some of those
comedic trailblazers and give them a platform to share their work with the nation.”
The five new pilots are as follows:
Mean Mums: Sunday, September 23rd at 8.30pm
When Jess’s only son starts school it’s a steep learning curve, for her. She enters a world of know-it-all, judgmental,
passive-aggressive women whose primary purpose is to promote their child as the most gifted, most brilliant and most
bestest child ever. And don’t even start with the teachers! Starring Morgana O’Reilly, Anna Jullienne, and Aroha Rawson. Mean Mums is produced by South Pacific Pictures.
Sidelines: Monday, September 24th at 8.30pm
Sidelines is a quirky, but broad-appeal dramedy series following four unsatisfied suburban 30-something parents reluctantly
forced together every Saturday morning to watch their children’s soccer team. Starring Nick Rado, Tarun Mohanbhai, and
Thomas Sainsbury. Sidelines is produced by Laugh Club New Zealand.
The Lonely Hearts Motel: Monday, September 24th at 9pm
A mum and son who run an unusual motel in Palmerston North are about to fail their motel inspection, when the half-son
and silent partner arrives unannounced in a last-ditch effort to salvage his dad's legacy. Starring Millen Baird,
Ginette McDonald, and Angella Dravid. The Lonely Hearts Motel is produced by Brown Sugar Apple Grunt Productions.
Golden Boy: Tuesday, September 25th at 8.30pm
In a small New Zealand town, aspiring journalist Mitch struggles to get out from under the shadow of her brother Tama –
a newly-minted All Black. Starring Hayley Sproull, Kimberley Crossman, and James Rolleston. Golden Boy is produced by MediaWorks Ltd.
Mangere Vice: Wednesday, September 26th at 8.30pm
Set in the mean streets of South Auckland, Mangere Vice follows the exploits of street-smart Detective Robbie Kingi and his new partner, an upper class, preppy church boy from
