Introducing Hurricane Shayn Wills
Since his first performances at Auckland's Poles Apart blues and folk club in the mid to late eighties to his support gigs for Albert King, Junior Wells, Canned Heat and John Hammond Jr and his legendary residency at Auckland's Java Jive with his band The Swamp Diggers throughout 90's to his classic NZ tours of the 2000's with his band The Handsome Giants, Wills has been and continues to be a fine example of the New Zealand working musician. A 30 year + career in the music industry prove Wills credentials are sound.
With a repertoire ranging from blues, country, folk and reggae, from the Fabulous Thunderbirds to Bob Dylan, from traditional to contemporary and from ancient covers to well written and composed originals all this combined with a relaxed and confident stage presence and exceptional musicianship show Wills has something for everyone and his shows are not to be missed!
Watching Wills play it becomes glaringly obvious he is something special. For starters his ability to play harmonica, guitar and sing at once is astounding and entertaining. His complex guitar rhythms, innovative harmonica riffs and melodic voice make him a must-see act. Julie Oakley, a reviewer for the national music magazine ‘Real Groove’ is quoted to say, “Wills is one of the original black Mississippi Blues legends, reincarnated and living in Auckland, (New Zealand)”.
