Brass On The Grass Hits The Right Notes

The Hurunui District Council’s Community Team hosted their free Brass On The Grass event last week, and the day proved to be a hit with a day of music, food and laughs enjoyed by those who attended.

Although the weather forced the event indoors to the Waiau Hall, the event was hugely popular with over 100 Hurunui residents attending. Those who came along were well looked after with a High Tea provided by the Culverden Bakery and music from the 50’s Up Brass Band.

Cheviot local Ann Duncan says her and her friends are thankful for what was a most enjoyable day out.

“We felt so special being picked up by the bus the council arranged and were warmly welcomed at the venue. The brass band was fantastic and we are so grateful to the council and those that contributed to the event.”

The Brass On The Grass event received positive feedback from the community and the council’s Community Team hopes to provide more fun events like this.

Community Team Leader, Rochelle Faimalo, says her team really enjoys putting together these events as they have a noticeable effect on the community.

“Community get togethers like Brass On The Grass bring so much fun an enjoyment to our district. It is a real privilege for us to be involved in them and I am proud of the work the council continues to do to bring our community together post-quake.”

Brass On The Grass was made possible by funding received from The Tindall Foundation.
