Peggy Seeger, known for her singing, song writing and values in the world. You may be familiar with her brother, Pete
Seeger, who wrote the song “ Where Have all the Flowers Gone “ and many more. Peggy inspired Ewan MacColl to write one of the 20th Century’s best love songs - “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face“ - recorded by Aretha Franklin.
She now relaxes in the South Island during summer and has agreed to do a “ Writers and Readers “ lunchtime session in
the Wellington region on Saturday 3 March at 1pm at Expressions in Upper Hutt. This will be her first and only such
session in New Zealand before she returns to the UK for similar events celebrating her memoir riding high in the UK

Born in New York City, Peggy Seeger enjoyed a childhood steeped in music and politics. Her father was the musicologist
Charles Seeger; her mother, the composer Ruth Crawford; and her brother Pete, a writer of protest songs. It was in
England, however, that she met the man with whom she would share the next thirty-three years, Ewan MacColl. As Ewan's
muse, Peggy inspired one of the twentieth century's greatest love songs The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Together, Peggy and Ewan helped lay the foundations of the British folk revival. First Time Ever is Peggy’s clear-eyed, luminous and truthful memoir.
