Media Release: “Passionate kiwi” celebrating 25 seasons of TV
Gone Fishin’, one of the country’s longest running TV programmes, is getting ready to celebrate 25 years in New Zealand
homes.
The new season kicks off on Sunday 11th Feb at 4.30pm on Three.
Presenter Graeme Sinclair said it was a herculean effort for a show that had humble beginnings.
“Twenty-five seasons, we’re going to crack 600 episodes and it is one of New Zealand’s longest running TV shows,” he
said.
“It has been a real privilege to be a part of Gone Fishin’ since its inception in 1993.
“All I am is a facilitator. A conduit for some amazing people and some amazing places to come together around a central
fishing theme.
“I'm not a great fisherman, I'm just a passionate Kiwi who loves to get out and meet other Kiwis who are similarly
passionate.”
It has not always been easy going for the celebrated fishing show and its host.
During series five Graeme was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a central nervous system disease that affects movement,
sensation and body functions.
"Within a year I was in a wheelchair,” he said.
"To retain the series and battle the illness is not a bad effort and it highlights the importance of having the right
people around you.
“My wife Sandee is key to that, and now having our children, James and Amelia, part of the crew is special.”
The show has also welcomed on a new sponsor - adhesive company, Bostik.
Sinclair said having Bostik step up to the plate and have confidence in the show was very much appreciated.
"Sponsorship isn't always easy to get and when you get the right partnership it's pretty special."
