Media Release: Experience Out of the Blue music festival in sunny Nelson
Grab your picnic rug and your dancing shoes for Out of the Blue, a day-long music festival on Saturday 6 January in Trafalgar Park in Nelson city.
Presented by Showcase Nelson and The Sound radio station, the event celebrates some of New Zealand’s very best musical talent. With ten acts in one day from 1pm – 10pm, the festival offers an eclectic line up of folk, alt-country, blues, rock, pop, funk, electronic, celtic and reggae.
On the big stage, there will be stunning live performances from: stellar*, The Eastern, Hobnail, Kemptones, The Warratahs, Andrew Fagan and the People, L.A.B, Chicago Smoke Shop, The Harris Brothers and Graeme James.
Nelson City Council is a sponsor of the event. Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese says the Council supports unique large-scale events like Out of the Blue that create an exciting buzz for locals, visitors, and the city’s businesses.
“Out of the Blue will be one of the highlights for the city this summer, providing another great reason for locals to stay home and for visitors to come and experience our extraordinary city. With major sporting matches on around the same time, it’s going to be a big weekend in Nelson.”
Following Out of the Blue the next day is a Tasman United football match against Canterbury United Dragons and on Tuesday 9 January is a one-day cricket international.
Festival Director Stu Allan says he’s excited to see his concept of creating large-scale music events for Nelson Tasman come to fruition, with Out of the Blue the starter for Showcase Nelson’s longer-term vision of staging up to three large-scale events in the region each year.
“This is about creating a unique experience in Nelson city that leverages the additional 75,000 plus visitors in the region at that time of year. It’s going to be an exceptional day out! “We expect Out of the Blue will have wide appeal for groups of music and festival loving friends and families who live here or are visiting our region. Festival goers can also expect a few local surprises on the day.”
Event host Phil Darkins encourages people to stay all day to experience the music as it unfolds.
“The artistic line-up has been selected for their outstanding live performances. Out of the Blue is a celebration of high-quality New Zealand musicians at what will be a quintessential Kiwi event; a day out with friends enjoying quality music and great food. The beauty of the festival is that people don’t need to know all the bands playing. The point is for everyone to come along to soak up the summer music festival atmosphere. Take my word for it – it’s going to rock!”
