Judges Announced for Fashion in the Field
An esteemed panel of style and fashion industry experts will judge the hotly contested title of Best Dressed Man and
Best Dressed Woman at the Fashion in the Field competition, taking place at Riccarton Park Racecourse on Saturday 18
November.
A part of New Zealand Cup and Show Week, this event has a panel of judges made up of individuals from the fashion and
modelling industries. Co-ordinating the Fashion in the Field is local fashionista Angela Stone. Judge Mel Radford Brown,
Director of Portfolio Model Agency is joined by former winner and co-owner of menswear boutique store Sergios, Paul
Dean. The third member of the panel is former winner and local businesswoman Nettles Lamont.
The ladies will compete for a range of prizes, with the overall winner securing flights for two to Singapore on
Singapore Airlines. They will stay five nights with Millennium Hotels and Resorts, courtesy of Mondo Travel. The winner
will be invited to represent the region at Ellerslie Racecourse in the Viva Prix de Fashion on 3 March 2018. The prize
includes flights to Auckland for two with three nights’ accommodation, courtesy of Millennium Hotels and Resorts.
The Sergios Best Dressed Man’s finalists will compete to win flights for two to Brisbane, staying seven nights at the
Peninsular Beachfront Resort in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast.
‘Fashion and racing are inextricably entwined and there is no more a fashionable event than the New Zealand Cup and Show
Week. Race day attire is all about style, sophistication, glamour and elegance and this is reflected in the fashion.
When dressing for the track, think couture not cocktail – this is the day to dress in your finery,’ says Angela Stone.
When asked for advice for entrants, judge Mel Radford Brown says, ‘this is such a high profile day, both from a social
and racing perspective. We will be looking for a unique and stylish look in terms of best dressed with flair and
personality. The entrant must show strong, but natural deportment and wear the outfit with confidence. The outfit must
be an eye-catching ensemble, worthy of the prize.’
NZ Cup and Show Week attracts approximately 200,000 attendees to the festival each year and injects $30m into the local
economy. An array of events are being held at Riccarton Park Racecourse, Addington Raceway and the Canterbury A & P Show.
