Southsure Insurance Supports Local Emerging Artists
Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) Screen and Visual arts students present their work in the exceptional Southsure Emerging Artist Awards Exhibition and Flicks night. For the sixth year, the annual Southsure Insurance Emerging Artist Exhibition and Awards will be held at venues across the Invercargill CBD.
The event is organised by a committee of second year degree students dedicated to showcasing the work created throughout the 2017 study year from film, animation and visual art. The exhibition opens on Monday, October 30th and runs until Friday, November 10th. The awards will be held on Thursday, November 9th at Centrestage at 7pm during The Flicks Film and Animation Showcase, with a pre-show function held at SIT’s Raw Gallery at 5.30pm. Admission is a can of food to be donated to the local Salvation Army’s Food Bank.
The 2016 winner of the Emerging Artist Award, Maira Muller will join two guest judges to select this year’s overall winner of the $2,000 grand prize. Students are also competing for a runner-up prize of $500, an Excellence in Animation prize worth $500 plus an internship with Wellington based Mechanic Animation and an Excellence in Film prize of $500. Cash prizes continue to be generously sponsored by Southsure Insurance. The Southland Art Society also offer a $200 prize.
Overall, the Southsure Emerging Artist Awards is a night of entertainment and celebration, and a great chance for students to share their hard work with friends, family and the Southland community.
