Ode to the Moon - Free concert to celebrate Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival
A free concert entitled ‘Ode to the Moon’ will be peformed by the Aroha String Quartet in Wellington on Sunday 1
October. The lively and varied programme celebrates Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival and includes folk songs and
revolution-era pieces from China as well as tuneful works by New Zealand composers Anthony Ritchie and David Farquhar.
In keeping with the name of the concert, some pieces have a moon theme.
The concert starts at 7pm at St Andrews on The Terrace, with doors opening at 6pm. It is part of a series of events
organised and sponsored by the China Cultural Centre in New Zealand.
Aroha Quartet first violinist Haihong Liu said “We think the audience will love this happy blend of music from different
cultures. The concert is full of memorable, evocative tunes and plenty of drama. Make sure to turn up early to get a
seat!”
The Aroha String Quartet is firmly established as one of New Zealand’s finest chamber music ensembles. Founded in 2004,
this versatile Wellington-based quartet is known for its passionate musicality, impressive technique and multicultural
innovation.
