New Zealand Film Human Traces Selected for Toronto International Film Festival
Entertainment One are thrilled to announce NZ film HUMAN TRACES has been selected to play at the Toronto International
Film Festival (TIFF). This is a huge achievement for the debut feature film making team.
HUMAN TRACES will show in the Discovery section of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. This section
traditionally shows films that are the director's first or second feature film. HUMAN TRACES is Director Nic Gorman’s
first feature film, his first short film (co-directed with Paul Glubb) Here be Monsters won Best Short Film at the New Zealand Film Awards in 2013.
Director Nic Gorman comments, “What a privilege to be taking our film to TIFF, one of the most wonderful celebrations of cinema, half a world away from
where the film was set. HUMAN TRACES was always an ambitious undertaking - the structure, the location, the rawness of
the performances - and it’s nice to have that ambition recognised and to be playing in the Discovery section alongside
the world’s next great filmmakers.”
HUMAN TRACES tells a complex story on a big canvas. Soon after the arrival of a mysterious young man, contact with the
outside world is cut off for a husband and wife trying to return a remote Subantarctic island, 1000 kilometres from
human life, to its natural state.
HUMAN TRACES was filmed in The Catlins, at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand and stars Sophie Henderson (Fantail, Outrageous Fortune), Mark Mitchinson (The Hobbit, Filthy Rich) and Vinnie Bennett (Ghost in the Shell, Filthy Rich). Vinnie Bennett is poised for international success as one of four international actors selected for the prestigous
TIFF 2017 Rising Stars programme.
Producer Nadia Maxwell says of the selection, “It is a huge honour to have our debut feature selected for TIFF. It
speaks volumes to the incredible collaborators this film has attracted and we’re excited to see how it connects with
international audiences.”
Developed with support from the New Zealand Film Commission and Random Films.
HUMAN TRACES will be released in New Zealand cinemas on November 16.
