Top Kiwi comedians Paul Ego and Wilson Dixon are proving a hot ticket with southern fans ahead of shows in Queenstown, Invercargill, Gore, Dunedin and Wanaka in July.
House Series organiser Jade Gillies said ticket sales for the tour from July 20-24 had been phenomenal so far with both Invercargill shows sold out already – and strong sales in Gore leading to the decision to switch to the larger St James Theatre.
“People love Paul’s hilarious observations of everyday life, which make him a crowd favourite, while Wilson’s wry country music comedy is perfectly suited for our audiences.”
Paul Ego is a veteran of the Kiwi comedy scene and has been described as “NZ’s Top Professional Comedian” and “The Master of Improv”.
Best known as a team leader on TV’s ‘7DAYS’ and as the voice of a large yellow supermarket, Ego is also a former Billy T Award winner.
Hailing from Cripple Creek Colorado, country music legend Wilson Dixon’s melodic philosophies on life have seen him become one of the most loved characters on the Australian, UK and NZ circuit.
He has had sold out seasons at The New International Comedy Festival and won awards for Best Show and the supreme Festival Award for outstanding artistic achievement.
MC Terry Frisby is joining them on the southern tour.
Ego said living “north of the wall”, as he did, tended to make him feel safe, yet isolated from real life.
“Yes, there are more cocktails up here, and even the ones without tails, but I think we all know that the heart of New Zealand beats strongest in the South.
“I can’t wait to help open the facial laugh holes of many of the fine people of the big island, so I hope they’re ready for a comedy cavity search,” he said.
The tour starts in Queenstown (The Sherwood, Thursday, July 20), Invercargill (Invercargill Brewery, July 21, two shows SOLD OUT), Gore (St James Theatre, Saturday, July 22), Dunedin (Fortune Theatre, Sunday, July 23) and Wanaka (Gin and Raspberry, Monday, July 24).
Pre-sale tickets are $25, and door sales (if not sold out) $30.
