Over-sized arcade game tournament on ChCh streets this weekend.
Arcade game enthusiasts will be doing battle for a one-of-a-kind golden road cone trophy at Gap Filler’s Super Street
Arcade this weekend on the corner of High and Tuam Streets. The ‘Attack of the Cones Team Battle’ is open to all ages
and anyone can enter, even if they’ve never played before.
Gamers will compete in teams of two or three for the competition which will be held this Saturday, May 6 from 5 - 8:30pm
at the Super Street Arcade. The first 90 minutes is open registration and play with elimination finals to follow to
determine the ultimate winner. The winning team will take home the Golden Cone, a gold-painted road cone specially
created by RST Ltd and Men at Work in Christchurch for the tournament. There will be a range of other prizes for the
winners that have been donated by local businesses Smash Palace, C1, Alice Cinematheque and Vodafone.
The game that will be played is Attack of the Cones, which was developed especially for the Super Street Arcade system
by local game developers CerebralFix, residents in the EPIC building on Tuam/St Asaph Streets. The game features a
cycling hero, Captain Jimmy Wheeler, whose task it is to save Christchurch from an invasion of alien road cones. The
game graphics feature the streets of Christchurch and local personalities.
This is definitely an event that will suit spectators. Gap Filler’s relocatable grandstand, the Grandstandium, will be
there to allow spectators a seat from which to watch the action. The battle will also feature live commentary from MCs
Ciaran Fox and former RDU Breakfast host, Mike Field. There will be a sausage sizzle and Super Street Arcade t-shirts
available, too (cash sales).
The sponsors of this event are Men At Work Ltd and Aotea Electric.
