13-Storeys of Fun as Andy Griffith’s Bestseller
Comes to Life on Tour in April And May
Audiences from Whangarei to Wellington have the chance to experience the stage adaptation of THE 13-STOREY TREEHOUSE, Andy Griffiths’ and Terry Denton’s best-selling book, when it tours to 10 North Island centres on its New Zealand premiere touring season in April and May 2017.
The best-selling book has been brought to life on stage in a premiere adaptation from award-winning playwright Richard Tulloch (The Book of Everything, Bananas in Pyjamas) for children aged 6-12 years – and their adults!
THE 13-STOREY TREEHOUSE began its North Island tour in Auckland and now hits the road to take the show to Whangarei, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Napier, New Plymouth, Palmerston North and Wellington.
Who wouldn't want to live in a treehouse? Especially a 13-Storey Treehouse that has everything, including a bowling alley, a secret underground laboratory, self-making beds, a vegetable vaporiser and a marshmallow machine that shoots marshmallows into your mouth whenever you're hungry. Andy and Terry live there, make stories together, and have a series of completely nutty adventures.
Today’s the day they’re going to bring those stories to the stage in their first play– except they forgot to write it! And where will they find flying cats, a mermaid, a sea monster, an invasion of monkeys, and a giant gorilla? They may not have these things, but they do have some friends to help out, a box of costumes and props, some pretty awesome technology and a truckload of imagination!
Under the leadership of director Julian Louis (Standing Room Only, Wilde Tales), the cracker team uses physical theatre, puppetry and music to bring this smash hit book to the stage.
Audiences and critics alike love the show, with The Australian describing it as “a cheerful and brisk production…that has the kids engaged and amused from the outset”.
“It’s got the same feeling as the book, which is all the fun of inventing things and creating them and then them going out of control” says author Andy Griffiths, who has won more than 50 Children’s Choice awards and been on the New York Times bestseller list. “There’s a lot of joy and fun.”
THE 13-STOREY TREEHOUSE tours to 10 North Island, New Zealand centres from 18 April to 23 May.For full tour details visit www.cdpkids.co.nz
