CONROY READY TO BOUNCE BACK AT TAUPO
Invercargill driver Jamie Conroy is ready to bounce back at Round 2 of the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park at Taupo this weekend.
Conroy had a tough introduction to the championship at Pukekohe last month after a multitude of problems on debut in his Allied 24/7 Fuel Falcon. Mechanical issues cost him any meaningful running in practice or qualifying and left him two steps behind all weekend.
In typical fashion Conroy has not been idle since Pukekohe. The Allied 24/7 Fuel Falcon was brought back to Invercargill after the opening round along with a whole list of things to change. "We nailed most of those things down and had a good test at Teretonga last Friday," says Jamie. "I was faster by a fair margin than ever before so I was pretty happy."
"Pukekohe was a new track with a new car and there were plenty of issues but I am looking forward to Taupo. It is the track where I closed out my Formula Ford Championship title and it is where I had my best ever qualifying in TRS. I like the track and I am looking forward to going back there."
After the issues that plagued his outing at the opening round Conroy is looking for a good points haul at Taupo. "The last round did a fair bit of damage to us points wise so we are aiming to grab plenty of points this weekend."
Practice, qualifying and the opening race of the round take place on Saturday while two races will be held on Sunday.
Conroy's campaign in the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship is supported by Allied 24/7 Fuel, Mobil 1, Horgan Farms, Southland Continuous Group, Sievwright Panel & Paint, PPG, Bluff Engineering & Welding, Choppa Tyres, E Hayes & Sons and Southern Probuilt Engines.
