Urzila Carlson lights Sky Tower pink for breast cancer awareness

Last night, the Sky Tower was lit pink by the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation’s newest ambassador, comedian Urzila Carlson. Carlson’s own brush with cancer in her youth has inspired her to highlight to New Zealand women the importance of early detection.

The Sky Tower will shine pink for all of October and is the first of many iconic buildings to be lit pink in support of Breast Cancer Month. From the Old Municipal Building in Whangarei to the Otago Settlers Museum in Dunedin, 18 local landmarks will join more than 200 other iconic or historic structures around the world as part of Global Illumination, an initiative established by Estee Lauder Companies in 2000.

The Sky Tower is the southern hemisphere’s tallest man-made structure, and has become a recognisable part of Auckland’s cityscape.

SKYCITY often lights the Tower for charities or community initiatives that we support financially, or to mark national holidays, milestones or other celebrations.
