2015 Queenstown Jazzfest Headline Acts Announced
Legendary jazz bassist David Friesen, NZ’s own Hollie Smith and Melbourne vocalist Hetty Kate will headline the 2015 Queenstown JazzFest held from Friday 23rd to Monday 26th October.
Throughout the Labour Weekend, the 38th JazzFest will showcase a selection of the finest local, national and international jazz musicians performing over 50 concerts at over 20 different locations around Queenstown.
American David Friesen was listed as one of the 24 most influential bassists in the history of jazz by jazz educators on a recent Jazz Bass Survey. David characterises his music as harmonically and melodically creative original compositions. David Friesen will perform in concert at the Queenstown Memorial Centre on Friday 23rdOctober and will be joined by exceptional New Zealand jazz musicians Dixon Nacey on guitar and Reuben Bradley on drums.
Saturday 24th October Hollie Smith will perform all those songs you know and love, plus some new material with the release of her latest single since ‘Will you be the one’ in 2011 scheduled for the end of September. The Hollie Smith Trio returns to Queenstown with support from The Nudge, Wellington’s fresh form of innovative blues and roots.
Described as one of the best swing-style vocalists currently on the world stage, Hetty Kate performs with the Queenstown Jazz Orchestra on Sunday 25th October. The Orchestra will be directed by renowned American trombonist Bruce Paulson, a 20-year veteran of the Tonight Show band.
In total, over 80 musicians incorporating a wide range of musical styles feature in the 2015 Queenstown JazzFest programme of free and ticketed events.
Queenstown’s annual jazz festival is organised by the Queenstown JazzFest Trust which is a voluntary, not-for-profit community organisation. The Trust aims to involve, encourage, entertain and inspire through live music, performance and artistic activities.
Tickets for the 38th Queenstown JazzFest go on sale at midday on Friday 11thSeptember from Eventfinda with special early bird pricing until the end of September.
