Brendon McCullum backs Daffodil Race Day
Wednesday 19th August
Blackcaps Captain Brendon McCullum will be the guest of honour at the Makfi Challenge Stakes - Daffodil Race Day at Hastings Racecourse on Saturday 29th August.
McCullum is on a rare break from international cricket after leading New Zealand to the World Cup Final and a successful tour of England earlier this year.
He will sign autographs and pose for photos, before attending a special ‘High Tea’ celebration for Cancer Society Volunteers.
“These volunteers provide driving, respite sitting and fundraising services for people with Cancer, their friends, families and carers. They’re always there for us when we need their help, but to ensure that support continues in the future, they need ours now,” says McCullum.
Daffodil Race Day is a fundraiser for the Hawke’s Bay Cancer Society and entry to the course is by donation.
Hawkes Bay Racing CEO Andrew Castles says it’s a real honour to have someone of McCullum’s stature support the event.
“The Makfi Challenge Stakes - Daffodil Race Day is a day where the entire racing community comes together to support the Cancer Society in their fight against Cancer. The fact that Brendon McCullum has taken time out of his busy schedule to join this fight is an absolute thrill.”
McCullum will present a trophy to the winners of a race sponsored by his business Vermair Racing. He’ll be hosted by the team from Westbury Stud – home of the Group 1 Sponsor Makfi.
“Daffodil Race Day is in just its second year and already it’s one of the highlights of the Hawke’s Bay racing calendar. If we get more local businesses behind this initiative, we firmly believe this can become an iconic event the region can be proud of. A special day for a special cause,” says Castles.
Along with McCullum, James McDonald, Chris Waller, Murray Baker and Donna Logan have recorded their own Daffodil Race Day messages urging all New Zealanders to get along to this incredible event.
Funds raised will go towards providing support for people affected by cancer.
