The Mondiale Auckland
Aces have called in batsmen Michael Guptill-Bunce and Glenn
Phillips for their crucial final round home match with the
Otago Volts starting tomorrow.
Colin Munro is the notable omission due to a sprained ankle that he’s been unable to recover from after his world record six hitting efforts in Napier. Both Rob Nicol and Colin de Grandhomme are also still unavailable due to injury.
The Mondiale Aces win in the last round over the Stags has set up an intriguing final set of matches with a number of possibilities in play, including a chance of claiming the title.
Not unsurprisingly coach Matt Horne is ignoring the finer detail and focusing on the basics to put his side in contention.
“It’s pretty easy to let thinking about different outcomes interfere with what your job is, so we’ll definitely keep it simple out there. Each player knows their role and it’s about making sure that they do that job effectively for the whole four days. If we do that then we’ll hopefully get the win and see if that’s enough.”
Horne also wants to maintain the momentum from their win against the Stags.
“It was a really good performance down in Napier and we want to continue that kind of effort at home. We also owe Otago one from the game down there so we’re keen to put that right.”
A team for the game that starts at 10.30am tomorrow, 1 April, at Colin Maiden Park will be named from the following 13 players:
Michael Bates (Captain)
