Conroy Looks for More Track Time at Taupo
Series rookie Jamie Conroy heads to the Taupo Motorsport Park for Round 4 of the 2015 Toyota Racing Series simply keen
to get more track time this weekend.
Conroy, the current New Zealand Formula Ford Champion has made a big impression on debut in the field of international
drivers, winning his first race in the series in just his second race weekend a fortnight ago. However the third round
at Hampton Downs last weekend threw some new factors at Conroy as he experienced his first wet race in a 'wings and
slicks' car, his first time driving his Mobil 1 #23 car on slick tyres on a wet track and just his third ever wet race
in any type of race car.
However he is keen to get onto the Taupo track. "I like the track here and I won the Formula Ford Championship there
last year so I have good memories," he said earlier this week. "The guys in this series go fast straight away and I need
to process what I need to do. It is a short series and I need seat time. I need to make the most of it. Any lap I am
sitting on the sidelines I am not doing it."
This weekend will feature a slightly different race format as after practice on Friday competitors will have a 15 minute
qualifying session on Saturday morning followed by two fifteen lap races on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning
another 15 minute qualifying session takes place followed by another 15 lap race with the final race of the weekend ,
the feature event, the Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy Race over 20 laps.
