Vesely celebrates NZ tennis victory with Moët & Chandon
World number 63, Jiri Vesely has won this year’s Heineken Open after defeating Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-2 in today’s final match. Moët & Chandon the official champagne sponsor of the New Zealand Festival of Tennis awarded Vesely’s victory with a personalised Moët & Chandon Magnum, created exclusively to honour this exceptional sporting achievement.
Vesely cooled off world number 44, Adrian Mannarino's, scorching start to the Heineken Open final, in a little over an hour match.
The rain held off long enough to see Vesely win the match in straight sets, the Heineken Open becoming his first ATP title.
“It’s like a dream, I still can’t believe it is true, it’s been an amazing week. Thank you to everyone, I’ll be back next year,” says Vesely.
“I’ll definitely have a glass of champagne with my team,” added Vesely.
For Mannarino, today was another courageous battle in which he played some superb tennis, but he rarely came close to breaking Vesely's powerful serve.
“Jiri played very well this week, I am happy for him,“ says Mannarino, “I’ll be back next year that’s for sure,” he added.
“Vesely’s win was well deserved today. Not only did he showcase impressive sportsmanship throughout the tournament but he also displayed great skill and determination to win against Mannarino,” says Rai Banbury senior brand manager Moët & Chandon.
Following on from the New Zealand Festival of Tennis Moët & Chandon will watch their global brand ambassador Roger Federer, who has just reached an extraordinary milestone of 1000 wins on the ATP World Tour, play at the Australian Open from January 19, 2015.
