Mount Maunganui New Year’s Eve: Important information
It’s become a kiwi tradition for thousands of kiwis who flock to Mount Maunganui to welcome in the New Year.
Funk and soul band Hipstamatics and rock act New Reptiles have been announced among the acts performing at Mount
Maunganui on New Year's Eve on December 31st.
The Mount peninsula north of Banks Ave will be closed to vehicles from 2pm on New Year's Eve until 8am on New Year's Day
with The Hits Street Stage set up on Maunganui Rd near Main Beach.
Daughters of Ally, Spank the Funky and Hipstamatics will perform on the street stage from 8pm to 12.30am.
DJ Candy, Joe's Van and New Reptiles are scheduled to perform on the iHeart Beach Stage between 8pm and 1.30am.
The arrival of the New Year will be celebrated with a spectacular fireworks display at midnight.
At 3pm on New Year's Eve the Mr and Miss Mount 2014 competition will be held with categories for Miss and Mr Mount,
Little Miss Sunshine and Miss Teen.
Extra Police and security officers have been brought in from across the Bay of Plenty and Auckland to assist with crowd
control.
Residents and holidaymakers in the road closure area should have already been sent vehicle passes.
There will also be a vehicle pass issuing station at the Kawaka St Park'nRide from 11am on the December 31. Residents
will need to provide proof of address to obtain a pass.
Those heading in to enjoy the festivities can park at the Park'n Ride on Kawaka St and catch a free bus from into the
event zone. Bay Hopper buses will not be going into the closure area after 1pm on December 31. Buses that normally
service the road closure area will drop passengers off near the free Park'n Ride.
The Park'n Ride buses will then take them into the road closure area. Normal Bay Hopper bus services will resume on
January 1.
Or people can use the Bayline Coach service, which has pick-up locations around the city, for $15. From December 20 to
January 11 Summer Ambassadors will staff the Tauranga City Council Beach Base at Mount Drury with information about
activities during the holiday season and a free barbecue at midday every day.
