O’Donnell in for Mondiale Aces return home

Media Release
Wednesday, 17 December 2014

Young batsman Robbie O’Donnell will join the Mondiale Auckland Aces for their first home Plunket Shield clash of the season starting tomorrow.

The Mondiale Aces take on the Central Stags in the third round of the four day competition and O’Donnell comes into the 12 to replace Craig Cachopa who has been ruled out due to an injury to his shin.

The game serves as a top of the table clash with the Mondiale Aces sitting in pole position after two straight wins, and the Stags occupying second spot on net runs per wicket from the Northern Knights.

The Mondiale Aces managed to get a result in their last game against the Wellington Firebirds despite the weather and they could be hoping for a similar effort to get a result as the forecast looks grim for the weekend.

That performance in the last round was especially pleasing for coach Matt Horne given the shortened nature of the match.

“I thought that we did a great job of making the most of what we had. It’s sometimes hard in disrupted games to get in to the groove as a batsman and I think our bowlers made the most of that, and the conditions, to set up the win.”

Horne is also aware of putting together a good performance in the final game before the Plunket Shield takes a rest until February.

“We’ve made a great start but we want to make sure that we sign this bit of the season off properly and head into the break still on top of the table.”

A team for the game that starts at 10.30am tomorrow at Eden Park Outer Oval, will be named from the following 12 players:

Rob Nicol (Captain)
Dean Bartlett
Michael Bates
Brad Cachopa
Carl Cachopa
Donovan Grobbelaar
Colin Munro
Tarun Nethula
Robert O’Donnell
Matt Quinn
Brett Randell
Jeet Raval
