Munro and De Grandhomme back for semi-finals
The Mondiale Auckland Aces will have the considerable talents of their two Colin’s - Munro and de Grandhomme – back for their Georgie Pie Super Smash elimination semi-final tomorrow night in Hamilton.
Munro and de Grandhomme have been in the UAE with the New Zealand A side but have returned in time to strengthen the Mondiale Aces middle order for the finals weekend.
Their opposition for the game on Saturday will be determined this evening when the Northern Knights take on the Wellington Firebirds. The winner of that match advances straight to the final on Sundayafternoon (4pm) with the loser returning to face the Mondiale Aces the following evening.
That uncertainty could be something that affects a team’s planning but who they might face and who they’d prefer to play are both things that coach Mark O’Donnell says they haven’t even considered.
“It’s a cliché but this weekend is about our own processes and how well we execute them – who the opposition might be is much less important. We’re obviously mindful of the threats that each side possesses but it’s about maximising our performance.”
O’Donnell is obviously pleased to have Munro and de Grandhomme returning for the competition’s most important games.
“They’re both quality players who can turn a game on any given day, so it’s great to have them back in the team. They give us some extra hitting power in the middle order which gives you a few more options.”
A team for the game that starts at 7.00pm tomorrow evening at Seddon Park, will be named from the following 13 players:
Rob Nicol (Captain)
Michael

Brad Cachopa
