FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 Mascot kicks off festivities

FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 Mascot kicks off festivities

The Official Mascot for the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 is coming to Dunedin to join in the Santa Parade this Sunday from 3pm.

The mascot, Wooliam, has already made an appearance in Auckland and Wellington, but this will be his first time down south. His character is a fusion of the passion, colour, fun and excitement of next year’s tournament while also being identifiable as something very Kiwi – a black sheep.

Wooliam will be on the FIFA U-20 World Cup float along with the FIFA U-20 World Cup NZ 2015 Winners’ trophy and the tournament’s regional ambassador, Mike McGarry. Junior players from the region will also join the float for the parade.

After attending the Santa Parade in Dunedin Wooliam will be heading to Stewart Island and then on to Invercargill to meet the volleyball/football playing Fred the Ram. On Tuesday 9 December it is back to Dunedin for a 7.30am Chamber of Commerce breakfast at the Kingsgate Hotel before Wooliam heads out to meet school children at Balmacewen Intermediate School at 9am, Mornington Primary School at 11am, the general public at Dunedin’s Golden Centre Mall at 12noon and St Bernadette’s Primary at 2pm.

FIFA LOC Venue General Manager – Dunedin, Aaron Joy, says “This is a great chance to get involved with the build-up to next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup. Wooliam is getting the festivities started in a great Kiwi way right across the region.”

Wooliam will be accompanied by the FIFA U-20 World Cup NZ 2015 Winners’ trophy and Mr McGarry throughout the trip.
