A Taste of Edinburgh to Welcome the Bard
A Taste of Edinburgh to Welcome the Bard
Dunedin, 26 November 2014 – Award-winning local author and City Councillor, Neville Peat will speak at the Dunedin City Library on Friday 28 November about his recent visit to Edinburgh with the Mayoral sister-city delegation.
Broad Bay resident Cr Peat is a writer and photographer with a passion for history. He was born in Dunedin and is a descendant of Scottish pioneers who settled in Otago in the mid-1800s. In 1994, Cr Peat won the inaugural Dunedin Citizen of the Year award for his Dunedin photographic books. As a Dunedin City Councillor he has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Community and Environment Committee and the Council representative on the Otago Museum Trust Board.
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Dunedin and Edinburgh, Cr Peat’s visit to Edinburgh presented an opportunity for him to experience the vibrant arts and culture of Scotland’s seat. The trip programme incorporated both the Edinburgh Festival and Tattoo and these experiences will be shared in Friday’s illustrated talk.
The evening will conclude with the launch of the annual Robert Burns Poetry Competition, run by Dunedin Public Libraries in conjunction with the Dunedin Burns Club along with the support of the University of Otago’s Centre for Irish and Scottish Studies and the Otago Daily Times. Entry forms for the competition are available at all Dunedin Public Libraries before the closing date on 5 January 2015.
Cr Peat’s talk begins at 5.30pm in the Dunningham Suite, 4th Floor, Dunedin City Library.
