Mondiale Aces retain 13 for date with Firebirds

The Mondiale Auckland Aces have named an unchanged squad of 13 for their Georgie Pie Super Smash clash with the Wellington Firebirds tonight.

After two games across two weekends the Mondiale Aces step into an action packed weekend on home turf as they face first the Firebirds tonight, then the Central Stags on Saturday and the Northern Knights on Sunday.

The triple header means that this is a crucial set of games for the Mondiale Aces but coach Mark O’Donnell has his, and his players, eyes set firmly on tonight’s clash.

“You can’t say we haven’t thought about the other two games because you have to, but we’ve got the guy’s heads totally focused on what they need to do tonight because otherwise you’re setting up to fail. We really want to get the weekend off to a winning start.”

The Mondiale Aces put together a dominant performance against the Volts last week but O’Donnell says that will be far from their mind this evening.

“It’s always really pleasing when the team delivers a quality performance like that but it’s frankly irrelevant once they step out on the field tonight. We know that Wellington will be desperate to win this game and we need to be desperate too if we want to stop them, simple as that.”

A team for the game that starts at 7.10pm tonight, 14 November, at Eden Park, will be named from the following 13 players:

Rob Nicol (Captain)
Michael Bates
Brad Cachopa
Carl Cachopa
Colin de Grandhomme
Lockie Ferguson
Donovan Grobbelaar
Martin Guptill
Anaru Kitchen
Mitchell McClenaghan
Kyle Mills
Colin Munro
Tarun Nethula
