Cricket Blitz, the new after school cricket competition launched by Auckland Cricket less than two months ago, has already enrolled 114 teams.
The target for the first season of Cricket Blitz was 160 teams and the progress made so far suggests that figure could be reached well in advance of the season starting in January 2015.
The combination of fast, action packed, modified cricket played regionally after school is so far proving a real hit with primary, intermediate and secondary schools across Auckland.
The response has pleased but not surprised Auckland Cricket Club and Game Development Manager Adrian Dale.
“It’s fantastic to see that the concept is getting such a positive response from schools. We thought before we launched that it was a great fit for social and first time cricketers at school, so it’s gratifying to see that turned into team numbers.”
Auckland Cricket will support schools in their preparation for Cricket Blitz by assisting with training sessions in term four in participating schools.
