Love, triumph, struggle, victory, adventure, journey, loyalty, friendships, family – see all of this and more this weekend when the Storylines Festival swings into town bringing children’s books to life for South Auckland families.
Storylines Festival of New Zealand Children’s Writers and Illustrators is an exciting nationwide event presented by the Storylines Children’s Literature Charitable Trust, which celebrates and promotes children’s writers, illustrators and storytellers for New Zealand children and their families through workshops, seminars and, famously, the free Storylines Family Days.
The Storylines South Auckland Family Day was first held last year, and this year Storylines has partnered with the ShopSamoa.com (Online Samoan & Pacific Book Store) to be its official bookseller for the event, which will be held on Saturday 30 August at the Vodafone Events Centre from 10:00am – 3:00pm.
A tropical ‘Pacific Village’ will be erected at the centre on the day where people can find all Pacific children’s literature, authors, illustrators and various works. Director and founder of ShopSamoa.Com, Rasmus Pereira says they are ‘extremely excited about the event’, which serves not only to promote Pacific authors and their works, but also provides an opportunity for many Pacific Island families in South Auckland to be exposed to Pacific children’s literature, which can help create awareness of what is available in the market for Pacific children’s learning.
Mr Pereira also stated that they aim to create an exciting family-oriented atmosphere where parents and children can enjoy themselves with various free entertainment and activities, and a love and appreciation for New Zealand literature, authors and artists. Free entry applies and all families are invited.
