Free Entry to Popular Orchid Show
A grant from the Henderson-Massey Local Board has once again allowed the Waitakere Orchid Club to provide free entry to its popular spring show.
Auckland, 20 August 2014.
This year, there will be free entry again to the Waitakere Orchid Club Spring Show, thanks to the generous support from the Henderson-Massey Local Board.
Last year saw the popular show offering free entry to the public for the first time. The organising committee felt that it was time to open the show, and the appreciation of orchids, to the wider community. Families could visit without having to worry about how much to spend. It was an ideal way for children to learn about a new hobby.
It was a financially risky move because in previous years, the cost of venue hire was just covered by door takings. Being a not for profit organisation, the club could only afford this with help from the local board.
The experiment worked. More than twice the usual number attended. The show marshal, Ms. Glenys MacRae said, “It was wonderful to see people from all walks of life enjoyed themselves at the show. There was a real buzz.”
This year the club hopes that with free entry, the buzz will once again return to the Kelston Community Centre.
Waitakere Orchid Club Spring Show 29th to 30th of August, 10am - 4pm Kelston Community Centre, cnr. Awaroa and Gt. North Road Entry is free.
The Waitakere Orchid Club is a charitable organisation that supports the growing, education and appreciation of orchids.
