The Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival
October 4th, 12.00pm – 7.00pm, Forsyth Barr Stadium
The Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival build up is in full swing as they announce the breweries, food providers and music that will feature at the event coming to the Forsyth Barr “The event is going to be the largest craft beer and food festival Dunedin will see this year, and we’re excited to be working with such a wide range of breweries and food providers for the days,” said Dan Hendra, Events and Communications manager. “It’s shaping up to be a great day out for the family paired with true Kiwi entertainment, it’s guaranteed to have something to please everyone at the up to 5000 person event.”
The festival has secured a range of breweries from across the country including a contingent from Wellington, and will see an impressive selection of international beers from Beer Without Borders, along with a solid selection of wines and ciders represented as well.
“We have over 40 breweries, wineries and cider brands represented along with 16 local restaurants and food vendors, and it’s likely the list will continue to grow as we get closer to the event,” said Hendra. “From fresh Karitane crayfish through to Taieri raised beef, we’ll have the finest local food to match the massive range of beverages available.”
After taking on board the feedback from the first festival held in 2013, the team has replaced tokens with the AWOP (another way of paying) electronic wristband system which promises to speed up queues and free up pocket space.
Utilising more of the Forsyth Barr Stadium’s covered pitch not only ensures the event is “weather proof” it also means there will be more space for stalls and attendees.
“More space means brands can stick out more, and it’s meant we can create dedicated areas for picnicking and a children’s play area for families wanting to enjoy a day out,” said Hendra. “There’s no way the rain can get in and we’re hoping the warm October sun will heat the stadium up as an extra bonus!”
The homebrew competition will once again give the overall winner the opportunity to brew the festival beer for 2015. Plus the competition is giving back to charity as local businesses are invited to enter their homebrew with all fees going to the charity of the winning “Homebrewing is really popular in Dunedin and we’re excited to have last year’s overall winner, Dale Booth, brewing with Richard Emerson to reproduce his winning Raspberry Wheat beer as the Official Festival Beer being sold from our festival bar.”
.
Kiwi legend Che Fu with his band The Kratez will be headlining the music on offer, supported by local bands during the day. “We set out to create a day that works with each element aimed to match the atmosphere we’re trying to create.”
“For those wanting a fun day out with great music and a chance to try great local produce matched with the widest range of beers seen in Dunedin this year, the Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival is the festival to be at!”
