Make a Rotorua local New Zealander of the Year urges mayor
Mayor Steve Chadwick is challenging Rotorua residents to nominate a local to be the 2015 New Zealander of the Year.
“Think of a person who’s made a difference in your life. We are a genuinely caring community and most of us have been
inspired by someone in our community.
“One of the best things about my job is I get to meet or hear of people who are doing fantastic things for our community
and for New Zealand.
“These are people whose selflessness has had a profound effect on the lives of so many others. They’ve made New Zealand
a better place to live, yet their achievements often go unrecognised.
“I can think of no better chance for Rotorua to show New Zealand how proud we are of our own, than by nominating these
special people to be New Zealander of the Year,” Mrs Chadwick said.
The New Zealander of the Year Awards are the ultimate accolade for New Zealanders - nominated by New Zealanders. Any
member of the public can nominate an individual or a community organisation in the awards programme.
In addition to the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year, awards will also be presented to New Zealanders who have
performed with distinction in five additional award categories.
• University of Auckland Young New Zealander of the Year
• Metlifecare Senior New Zealander of the Year
• Mitre 10 Community of the Year
• Sanitarium Innovator of the Year
• Kiwibank Local Heroes Awards
The 2015 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year will be announced by the Prime Minister at the New Zealander of the Year
Gala Awards in Auckland on 25 February.

Richard Taylor (2012), Sir Paul Callaghan (2011) and Sir Ray Avery (2010).
