SEPTEMBER RELEASE!
A secret alien, a trip to Dreamworld and a Rising Star make the latest Deadly D instalment a must-read for kids
Deadly D and his sidekick Justice Jones are two kids on a mission – defeat the evil intentions of a nefarious journalist and preserve Dylan’s secret power that makes him the hottest young talent in rugby league.
Deadly D and Justice Jones: Rising Star is the second instalment in the action-packed, rugby league adventures series by authors Dave Hartley and former Broncos player Scott Prince, and this time they launch into new territory that should keep their young readers enthralled.
As Deadly D (Dylan’s alter ego) continues to be the NRL’s hottest superstar, his secret has fallen into the hands of a nasty newspaper reporter who can’t wait to tell the world! How will Dylan and Justice stop the curse from being revealed? What is the real identity of that girl they both have their eye on and why is she here?
In their quest to find the answers, the boys head to Dreamworld with their footy idols, and discover the truth is out of this world!
The Authors
David Hartley is a deputy principal in the city of Logan, south of Brisbane. He lives on the Gold Coast with his wife and two daughters. Employed by Education Queensland for more than a decade, he has taught across many year levels and was awarded ‘Gold Coast Teacher of the Year’ in 2009. David’s people are Barunggam, the traditional people of the Darling Downs/Chinchilla region.
Scott Prince, is a rugby league legend and is from the Kalkadoon people in Mt Isa. He lives on the Gold Coast with his wife and two daughters after a successful career, which included playing for the Brisbane Broncos and Wests Tigers, and captaining the Gold Coast Titans. He represented Australia and played for Queensland in State of Origin. In 2013 he was enlisted by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEERWR) as Indigenous ambassador for the ‘Learn, Earn, Legend!’ initiative.
In 2014, Scott and Dave became ambassadors for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
NZ readers may be particularly interested in the hilarious and fast-paced new kids book called Deadly D and Justice Jones: Rising Star as one of the main characters (Justice Jones) is a kiwi, living in Brisbane, Australia and loves the Warriors (NRL team). The first book, Deadly D and Justice Jones: Making the team introduces us to his Maori heritage and love of rugby league.
It is a short chapter book series by Dave Hartley (illustrator also) and Scott Prince (formed NRL Brisbane Bronco's star that retired in 2013) and is perfect for 'tween' age boys who don't like to pick up a book. It follows the action-packed, rugby league adventures of Deadly D and Justice Jones as Deadly D continues to be the NRL’s hottest superstar. The only problem is that Dylan’s secret has fallen into the hands of a nasty newspaper reporter who can’t wait to tell the world! How will Dylan and Justice stop the curse from being revealed?
