NZ OUTDOOR “The Safety Issue”
This edition of NZ OUTDOOR the team has compiled something a little bit different in terms of the standard format of
Hunting/Outdoor magazines. We believe we have produced a collector’s edition magazine called ‘The Safety Issue’. We
strongly believe this edition has real substance and on a topic that could save lives of hunters and outdoors people who enjoy being away from mobile phone reception and the safety that modern life brings.
In response to some of the tragic events we have seen in the news over the course of the last year the team was
motivated to try to break out of the predictable nature of the magazine whilst enhancing our reader’s ability to be safe
in the outdoors. That is the nucleus in which the Safety issue was born. We are going out on a limb to provide some
information for our readers that is less glamorous however has some very real messages with the possibility it could
save lives. We have compiled articles from the men and women who are on the frontline of rescue services on a range of
topics including;
1) Identifying Your Target
Can we learn from Military/Law Enforcement training techniques?
The Psychology of why hunters can shoot other hunters.
A real life account from a hunter who almost pulled the trigger on another human.
2) Rescue Situations told from the helicopter/winch operators perspective
Real life rescue operations.
How to make yourself more visible to the Pilot and rescue services.
The value of PLB’s (Personal Locator Beacon). NZO would like these to become compulsory by law to carry when in our
outdoors.
3) An extensive section of tips on safety in the outdoors including; Firearms safety, Bush craft, First aid and Weather
management.
NZO has a growing list of fans and subscribers who are very loyal to our magazine and I will not change what makes NZO
great but in my role as Co-editor I will also try to bring the reader as varied a subject base as I can and the safety
issue maybe a one off but I believe it has real heart and depth and if it helps one person then we have achieved our
goal.
Key to this edition having the impact we want I would be happy to field any interest from media entities around NZ and
