Proton Beast - Data
single taken from forthcoming album, Digitizer
We were promised an EP; instead our patience has graciously delivered MUZAI Records an album from digi-noise act PROTON BEAST; with "Data" the second single from the forthcoming long player, Digitizer.
Following on from their first single "Tetris", released in 2013, the duo (Westley Holdsworth, Stuart Hardwood) decided upon recruiting a third member to help play more intricate parts both live and on the record. Enter Vaughan Williams (The D4, Shocking Pinks) into the fold and suddenly the band started to rework their songs with their new three-headed "beast" (all puns intended).
Recorded by Eddie Castelow (Dictaphone Blues) at The Lab in Mt Eden, "Data"s lyrical content is loosely based on Aldous Huxley's novel "Brave New World" - the ideas of alienation and how consumerism can be used to control society, as the "powers that be" use silence as a means of keeping people from the truth. Holdsworth's use of a vocoder to take away the "human element" and turn his vocals into more of an instrument is set to be a concurring theme throughout the band's debut album (to be released digitally, of course, and on 12" vinyl later in 2014).
Listen to "Data" now.
