‘The Novel for Election Year’
‘Politicians’ short-term obsessions with constantly changing economic data and their half-baked promises of a rock star future ignore what kind of future might really be in store for us,’ says award-winning author and commentator Philip Temple.
As he launches his election-year novel, MiStory, he maintains that ’In the spin fest of electioneering, the real crunch issues are being ignored.’
Philip Temple wrote MiStory with ‘The reality that we live in a worsening surveillance state. And we are already experiencing the impacts of climate change.’
‘There is another likely global financial crisis around the corner,’ he says. ‘Conflicts over dwindling food, water and mineral resources are just over the horizon’.
With these realities in mind, Philip Temple has written a gripping novel that tells a tale of life in New Zealand at mid-century. It reveals what the future may hold if we ignore the threats that face us and carry on with ‘business as usual.’
Generation Zero - the group of young people fighting for a carbon-free future - told its members, ‘MiStory throws you 30 years into the future in brutal and realistic fashion. New Zealand is wracked by the worst effects of climate change, and engaged in constant conflict. Our very fabric is at risk of tearing apart. It’s insightful and it's a real nail-biter. It’s a fantastic piece of well-researched fiction. And it hits close to home.’
