Crown Relocations Staff Initiative - Supporting The Salvation Army during the Winter Months
We are excited to announce that another amazing 'Big Sallie Surprise' has been lined up for this year to fundraise for The Salvation Army.
“We are thrilled with the enthusiasm of our staff in choosing and planning our ‘Big Sallie’ 2014 event in support of The Salvation Army.” Lesley Beacham, Human Resource Manager, Crown Worldwide.
Here’s how it will work. On Saturday 2nd August, 2014 Crown employees together with family and friends will take part in a mid-winter walk-a-thon. These teams will walk from their Crown office to the local Salvation Army to raise funds for those in need during the winter months. Teams have chosen their own themes and will be dressed to impress! The walk will commence at 10am from Crown Offices around New Zealand and will end at the local Salvation Army Community Ministries centre or Family Store.
22 teams nationwide have registered for the walk - in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Hastings, Palmerston North, Lower Hutt, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin. They have been out in the community asking for cash sponsorships and donated items including non-perishable food, linen, nappies and toiletry packs. All items and cash donations will go straight to the Sallies, where they will be stored, sorted and distributed to those who need it most.
As our community partner of choice, The Salvation Army inspires us every day with their commitment to caring for those less fortunate. The Sallies have been fighting poverty in New Zealand since 1883 and depend on donations, grants and public funding for their community work throughout the country. The Salvation Army helps over 120,000 Kiwis and their families every year - providing supportive services such as life skills programmes and budgeting advice, as well as emergency assistance with food and clothing. The Sallies’ food banks are at the heart of their efforts, supporting 29,000 food-insecure households that struggle to feed themselves and their children each year.
Major Pamela Waugh, The Salvation Army’s Secretary for Social Services, says the support of organisations such as Crown Relocations to facilitate food fundraising drives to restock food banks through the winter periods makes a significant difference to the organisation’s ability to help families in need.
‘During winter our public donations tend to reduce just at the time that our clients need food parcels the most, so we greatly appreciate the significant and practical help that Crown Relocations staff are providing this August to collect food cans across their branches.
‘Crown Relocations’ 'Big Sallie Surprise' is a great example of how businesses can engage their staff help make an important and positive difference to their local communities,’ explains Major Waugh.
