Enter now—Upper Hutt’s annual Poetry Competition in full swing
There’s only three and a half weeks to go for Upper Hutt’s 14th annual Poetry Competition. Join us as we celebrate with the winners on National Poetry Day, 22 August 2014.
Upper Hutt, 16 July 2014 - Have you entered your ‘Remembrance’ poem in the 14th annual Upper Hutt Poetry Competition yet? Do you have a poetry masterpiece lying around your home that you would like to share at our poetry evening?
The deadline for poetry is fast approaching. All entries must be received by Upper Hutt City Library by 5.00 pm on Friday 8 August. This competition is free to enter, open to all, and will form part of our National Poetry Day celebrations on 22 August.
Winners in the adult section will receive book vouchers. Top contestants in the children and teen section will win book vouchers for themselves and their school. The People’s Choice award for both events is a book provided by Upper Hutt Paper Plus.
This year we will hold two poetry events on Friday 22 August at our Central Library. The children and teens event will begin at 5.30 pm, and the adult event will start at 7.00 pm. The evening will be filled with poetry readings from the competition and winners will be announced.
The adult event will also include an ‘open mic’ session, giving anyone a chance to share a poem with the audience. If you want to share your poetry, secure your place by registering at www.upperhuttcity.com/uhpoetrycompetition
“The Poetry Competition is one of Upper Hutt City Library’s great highlights of the year, and the awards evening regularly attracts up to 100 people of all ages,” says Community Services Manager, Debbie Duncan. “You don’t have to be a poet to attend; everyone is welcome to come along.”
If you want to attend the poetry evening register your interest with Upper Hutt City Library at one of our branches or via our website, www.upperhuttcity.com/uhpoetrycompetition
