Marvelly’s Writer Debut EP, Collisions, Launched
Auckland, 6 July 2014 - Lizzie Marvelly’s new EP entitled Collisions, her debut as a singer-songwriter, has just been released. The EP documents one of New Zealand’s most-loved young
singer’s journey of musical exploration, which Marvelly says is on-going.
"I'm hugely excited to release my first self-penned EP. Writing, co-writing and recording this EP has been an amazing
two year journey of collaboration and experimentation. I've been blessed to work with some incredible writers and
producers and I can't wait to share these new songs with the world. I'm already dreaming of heading back into the studio
again, for me this EP is just the beginning."
Internationally recognised as a classical singer and described by the Prime Minister himself as a ‘national treasure’,
Marvelly’s musical life has been something of a wild ride; including two major international signings, international
tours and two top-ten albums by the time she was just 21.
In 2013, she travelled to the UK and Australia, working with well renowned co-writers and producers, such as ‘Ivor
Novello Award’ winning Dan G. Sells and Richard Jones from the ‘Brit Award’ winning band, The Feeling. Jones was
effusive in his praise of Marvelly’s work ethic and her future.
“It’s a pleasure working with someone who is prepared to work extremely hard, she’s a huge talent.”
Marvelly admits she has begun a constantly evolving process to find her style. The 24 year old has been working with
star producers Stuart Crichton (Delta Goodrem, Jamelia, Guy Sebastian, Sugababes) and Lindsay Rimes (Reese Mastin, Stan
Walker, Jackie Thomas, Benny Tipene, the McClymonts, Timomatic), and her EP showcases the beginning of a new musical
future. Rimes agreed with Jones’ praise of Marvelly.
"Lizzie was a joy to work with. Her dedication to her craft is unmatched and it was an absolute pleasure creating music
with her."
Opening with the title track, Collisions, Lizzie’s developing brand of emotive storytelling sets the scene with insightful lyrics, driving pop beats, and catchy
melodies. My Own Hero adds a layer of empowerment, which is later compounded by the motivational anthem, Generation Young. The melancholy, haunting Glory Days hints at the darker moments of Lizzie’s adventure to find both her sound and herself, while Letting Go rounds up the offering with a heartfelt account about the difficulty of moving on.
From the collision of Lizzie’s two musical worlds, to the eventual act of letting go, this EP represents the work of a
young kiwi artist, paving her own path and following her music wherever it may lead.
