New Faces on Dunedin Swim Coaching Board
Dunedin (Friday, 4 July 2014) – Two new members have been appointed to the Dunedin Swim Coaching Board.
They are Maurie Jackways, who will take the place of Kay Alexander as one of the DCC’s two appointments on the board,
and Monique Esplin who has been appointed by the Swim Coaching Board itself to fill a non-Council appointed position
being vacated by John Brimble. The appointments were made after the positions were advertised and interviews held.
Mr Jackways, who is currently head of Salmond College at the University of Otago, is a very experienced educator, having
been Principal of Mount Aspiring College and Ormiston Senior College in Auckland. He has also had a long involvement
with sport throughout Otago, including being a Board member of Sport Otago.
Ms Esplin, a practising lawyer in Dunedin, has been a competitive swimmer and also a swimming instructor for various
swimming schools.
Dunedin Swim Coaching Board Chairman Lindsay Dey says it is pleasing to have people of such calibre prepared to step up
to the role.
“Maurice and Monique bring exactly the sorts of skills and background that make them ideal board members.
“They are replacing two valuable contributors in Kay and John, who I’d like to thank for the effort and energy they
brought to the table during the establishment of the board,” he says.
“It has been a challenging but exciting time and we are now seeing the fruits of the effort that has been put into swim
coaching by so many people, including the board.”
The new appointees will take up their positions this month.
