A sweet treat to help those who can’t remember
Alzheimers New Zealand Annual Appeal - 30 June - 27 July
30 June 2014 - Through the month of July, more than 300,000 individual lamingtons will be baked and iced in sunny Nelson and then shipped around the country to fundraise for the Annual Alzheimers New Zealand Appeal.
The Appeal, which runs between 30 June and 27 July, helps support the organisation in their work with people who have dementia – one of New Zealand’s most significant and growing healthcare challenges.
Customers can help support the Appeal through a donation at Countdown supermarket checkouts or by purchasing specially marked Countdown Mixed Lamingtons 6 pack, with 20 cents from each sale of each pack going toward the cause.
Last year’s appeal raised a record $58,000 thanks to the generosity of Countdown customers and Nelson-based lamington supplier Elite Foods.
Countdown has partnered with Alzheimers New Zealand for more than ten years, and during this time has helped raise over $1.3m for the organisation, supporting carers and families of people living with Alzheimers with information, education, advice and support groups.
There are currently 48,000 people who suffer from Alzheimers and dementia in New Zealand and this is predicted to double over the next 20 years as the population ages.
Visit your nearest Countdown store to purchase a pack of lamingtons or provide a donation through a collection box, or at checkouts.
