Calling all cycling enthusiasts – Auckland to get cranking
WHAT: The Crank – mass indoor Les Mills RPM® cycling event and fundraiser for youth cancer charity, CanTeen
WHERE: Shed 10, Queen’s Wharf, Auckland
TIME: Friday 29th August, 6:00am to 6:00pm
The Crank, New Zealand’s largest indoor RPM® cycling event, is back in 2014 and this year promises to be the biggest yet!
The indoor cycling phenomenon will take place at Shed 10 on Auckland’s Queen’s Wharf on Friday 29th August, with teams riding 180 stationary bikes to raise money for youth cancer charity CanTeen.
Organisers CanTeen and Les Mills invite all cycling and fitness enthusiasts, corporates and sports teams to get a team together and come see why this event has become one of the country’s most talked about indoor cycling challenges.
CanTeen National Event Manager, Ana Cunliffe says you don’t need to be a fitness fanatic to get involved.
“The Crank is not one of those gruelling marathon efforts that requires months and months of training – it’s a fun event for Kiwis of all fitness levels who like to get active and get the heart rate up a little.”
“We’re encouraging all Aucklanders, young and old, from professional cyclist to weekend warrior, to get a team together, support a great cause in CanTeen and enjoy this exceptional event.”
For the first time, The Crank will also run in three new locations – Whangarei (3rd August), Christchurch (8th August) and Wellington (15th August)
The high energy events will be run to the latest music thanks to media partners ZM and The HITS while a team of Les Mills’ superstar RPM instructors will make sure motivation is high and riders are in the zone.
The Crank is a great way to help build and motivate teams, says Les Mills NZ Local Marketing Specialist, Leigh Hoban.
“The idea behind The Crank is to remove the barriers around exercise and get Kiwis involved in a fitness event that is all about team work and a whole lot of fun. It’s a great way to burn some calories, have a laugh, and enjoy some healthy competition with your work colleagues or mates.”
The event registration helps cover the cost of the event and goes towards fundraising, so in order to raise money for CanTeen participants are encouraged to fundraise.
To be part of the day, teams will commit to raising a minimum of $100 per team member by encouraging friends and family to donate. The money raised will go towards educational, psychosocial and recreational activities aimed to support, develop and empower young people in New Zealand living with cancer.
CanTeen is the only New Zealand peer support organisation for young people aged 13 to 24 living with cancer as a patient, sibling or bereaved sibling.
Entries are now open to take part in the biggest indoor cycling event this country has ever seen. The Crank offers a 6-hour challenge, 12-hour challenge. Get your team of riders ready for some fat burning, adrenaline pumping Les Mills RPM® cycling!
