FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 Winner’s Trophy Tours the Southern Region
Seize the opportunity to have your moment with one of the world’s most significant sporting trophies.
The FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 trophy is touring the country and it is shortly the turn of the South! Football fans and
all other members of the community are encouraged to come along to a range of fun events as the Southern region prepares
for next year’s tournament.
Football South Chairman Matthew Holdridge says, “This is a wonderful chance for people to see the trophy and get a real
sense of what the tournament is all about. The Southern region will be out in force, from Timaru, through Dunedin to
Invercargill and Queenstown, and other places in between.
“Tickets are now on sale and it’s really exciting to see how reasonable ticket prices are. That makes it accessible for
many people in our community to experience what will be top-class sports entertainment.”
Football South covers four regions – South Canterbury, Otago, Central Otago and Southland. The organisation has more
than 90 affiliated clubs and schools, representing almost 9000 players and many thousands of coaches, referees,
administrators and supporters.
FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 Local Organising Committee CEO Dave Beeche says, “With our tournament little more than a year
away, we wanted to give football fans across the country a chance to get a taste of what is coming and to feel part of
the excitement. Kiwis get to see the trophy before the players vying for it do and we think that’s pretty special.
“This trophy has been held aloft by some of the greatest footballers in the world. Players such as Lionel Messi and
Diego Maradona who first found fame at this event.”
FIFA LOC Venue General Manager – Dunedin, Aaron Joy, says “The trophy has a full road show accompanying it with a 16m x
8m inflatable football pitch, inflatable goal, a kicking wall, photo boards, giveaways and more. The activities are
suitable for all ages, it is completely free to attend and, from
experience, I know everyone will have a great time.”

• Dunedin (Edgar Sports Centre, More FM Arena) Wednesday 21 May, 3.30pm to 6pm
• Balclutha (Cross Recreation Centre), Thursday 22 May, 10am to 11am
• Gore (MLT Events Centre), Thursday 22 May, 2pm to 3pm
• Invercargill (ILT Stadium Southland), Thursday 22 May, 6pm to 8pm
• Queenstown (Queenstown Recreation Ground), Friday 23 May, 11.15am to 1.30pm
• Cromwell (Anderson Park), Friday 23 May, 4.30pm to 5.30pm
The trophy left Waitangi on 5 May and over 25 days visits 60 locations from Waitangi to Invercargill.
Tickets are currently on sale for registered footballers for an exclusive three week window. On Monday 19
May, this opens up to Official Fans of the tournament (become one at www.fifa.com/nz2015) and public
sales begin on Monday 13 June.
The Otago Stadium in Dunedin will host seven games in the tournament - the first on Sunday 31 May 2015 and the last on
Wednesday 10 June 2015.
