Tiakina Te Pa Harakeke - Weaving Exhibition
Ngā Kura a Hine-Te-Iwaiwa Exhibition is a creative output of the ‘Tiakina Te Pā Harakeke’ research project.
'Tiakina Te Pā Harakeke' has been exploring views on the place of drawing upon traditional Maori knowedge to inform childrearing within Aotearoa. The project has highlighted key themes in regards to whanau wellbeing and the need for intergenerational support to be provided for the wellbeing of all within whanau, in particular for our tamariki and mokopuna.
Ngā Kura a Hine-Te-Iwaiwa is an exhibition of finely woven taonga that celebrate the skill and dexterity of a diverse group of weaving artists, honouring Te Pā Harakeke. Te Pā Harakeke represents whanau wellbeing and the importance of nurturing our tamariki. Ngā Kura Hine-Te-Iwaiwa reflects on the creative spirit and the way in which this can contribute to whānau ora.
The majority of weavers represented in this exhibition participated in research wanānga focused on Te Pā Harakeke as a model for whānau ora. Ngā rito younger weavers have been invited to exhibit alongside tohunga kairaranga ensuring support and nurturing for the following generations to come.
