Sport Wellington named as finalist at The Wellington Gold Awards
Sport Wellingtons flagship event AMI Round the Bays has been recognised as a finalist in the Vibrant Gold category at The Wellington Gold Awards. The award acknowledges the events sell out success in 2013 which attracted a record 13,733 participants to Wellington’s waterfront.
Organised by Sport Wellington since 1999, AMI Round the Bays has seen consecutive sell outs since 2012. The event has grown to be the largest fun run in Wellington and the third largest in New Zealand.
The announcement follows Sport Wellingtons recent success at the New Zealand Sport and Recreation Awards, where the organisation was recognised as the first Regional Sports Trust to be named as a finalist over four categories and to win the category award for Communication Excellence for AMI Round the Bays.
The Wellington Gold Awards aim to celebrate the excellence and enterprise of business in the Wellington Region over 7 industry categories and 3 best practice awards. The Vibrant Gold category recognises success in the events, hospitality and tourism sectors. Sport Wellington sits alongside four other finalists in this category including Beervana, Capital E - Arts Festival, Newtown Festival and Wings over Wairarapa. Previous winners of the Vibrant Gold award include Wellington Zoo and The World of Wearable Arts.
Chief Executive of Sport Wellington Phil Gibbons says “the team at Sport Wellington are ecstatic about the news that our major event is being recognised as a finalist in these prestigious regional awards. The success attained in becoming a finalist is amplified for us by the mana brought to these awards through the quality of the other finalists in our category.”
Winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony held at TSB Bank Arena on Thursday 19 June.
Sport Wellington’s own sports awards, The Dominion Post Sportsperson of the Year awards are being held on Thursday 12 June at the TSB Bank Arena.
