Rotorua hosts trans-Tasman netball clash over Anzac weekend

Just two days after commemorating Anzac Day to acknowledge New Zealand and Australia’s close alliance on the battlefields, all friendships will be set aside when the two countries square-off in a trans-Tasman netball clash in Rotorua.

Joint top of the ladder team Kia Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds at Rotorua’s Energy Events Centre on Sunday 27 April, in Round 9 of the ANZ Championship.

Rotorua District Council’s Sports and Recreation Strategy lead, deputy mayor Dave Donaldson, said the match provided a great opportunity for Rotorua people to experience world class netball at home in the city’s own indoor stadium.

“The Magic are proving again to be one of the form teams in a very tough trans-Tasman competition. So let’s get right behind our players and show the rest of New Zealand and Australia how much Rotorua sports fans back their home-grown stars.”

“It’s guaranteed to be an evening of great family entertainment. If you’ve never watched top netball live, here’s your chance to see some of the best in action,” said Mr Donaldson.

Doors open at the Energy Events Centre at 6pm, with the match’s centre pass due to start at 7.20pm.

Tickets are available from Rotorua Convention Centre. Prices start from $20 for adults and $15 for children (12 years and younger), excluding booking and service fees.
