Entries open for 2015 headland Sculpture on the Gulf
Since its inaugural exhibition in 2003, headland Sculpture on the Gulf has attracted many of New Zealand’s leading sculptors to showcase their work in a contemporary
sculpture exhibition on Waiheke Island.
Forty-five thousand people walked the trail in 2013 with the New York Times anointing it the 35th top thing to do in the
world.
headland Sculpture in the Gulf is now seeking proposals for the 2015 exhibition.
Being selected for headland Sculpture on the Gulf provides artists with an opportunity to present their work alongside leading sculptors on a
spectacular two-kilometre coastal walkway on the Matiatia Headland, Waiheke Island.
Each selected artist receives a grant of $2,000 towards the cost of completion of his or her work.
Artists are also in the running for a number of significant prizes including the headland Sculpture on the Gulf Premier Award of $30,000 and the Peoples’ Choice Award of $10,000. Each artist also receives two
complimentary tickets to the Opening Gala on Thursday 22 January 2015.
Between 30 and 35 pieces will be chosen to be exhibited on the walkway. The 2015 selection panel comprises Kate Darrow
(Hamilton Public Sculpture Trust), Sue Gardiner (Chartwell Trust) and Karl Chitham (Rotorua Museum Art Curator).

About headland Sculpture on the Gulf
headland Sculpture on the Gulf was established in 2003 by the Waiheke Community Art Gallery, and quickly became New Zealand’s
premier outdoor sculpture exhibition. The biennial event features 30-35 major sculptures along a spectacular two
kilometre coastal walk above Matiatia Bay on Waiheke Island and attracts visitors from around New Zealand and overseas.
More than 45,000 people attended the free event in 2013. headland Sculpture on the Gulf runs from 23 January to 15 February 2015.
