CREATIVE BARGAINS: AUT presents The Original Art Sale, Auckland’s largest art market.
Auckland’s largest art market backed by AUT
When the doors open at The Original Art Sale, presented by AUT University, art lovers are assured of finding the perfect piece at a good price.
The monster sale at Vodafone Events Centre launches with a charity gala night on Thursday, May 15 in support of Kidz First Children’s Hospital.
Vodafone Events Centre CEO, Richard Jeffery, says new backing from AUT has developed a significant prize pool for the growing secondary school art competition.
“The winners of the school art competition are announced at the gala night with the top three artists taking home a total prize pool of $1750, provided by AUT University,” says Mr Jeffery.
“Collaboratively presenting The Original Art Sale with AUT gives Auckland’s young artists a clear pathway to tertiary education.”
By April 28 students must submit entries they’ve completed within 12 months of the awards night and the top 40 will have their artwork exhibited on an exclusive wall for students.
The red letter VIP charity night requires art buffs to pre-purchase tickets from TicketDirect.
For $49 the guests have preferential first viewing of more than 1,200 paintings and sculptures by more than 350 New Zealand artists.
The Original Art Sale is in its successful seventh year and from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18 the doors are open to the public.
As soon as one piece sells – it rolls out the door and another item goes on display for the next shopper.
The supermarket-style event includes work from established and emerging artists and presents art collectors and buyers with affordable quality.
Artworks priced from $100 to $5,000 allow plenty of choices to suit varied budgets.
The Original Art Sale gives popular New Zealand artists access to genuine buyers, without having to produce a large volume of work required for an individual exhibition.
AUT head of corporate and community affairs, Aimee Driscoll, says AUT South places the needs of students at the centre of everything they do.
“AUT association with The Original Art Sale enables the young people of South Auckland to identify with tertiary education.”
“AUT South has just launched a communication design major in the Bachelor of Design degree, which is a tangible employment pathway for creative students.”
Vodafone Events Centre’s strong school’s programme and AUT South’s commitment to develop the young people of South Auckland into graduates creates a positive community relationship.
The Original Art Sale presented by AUT is open to the public at Vodafone Events Centre, Manukau on Friday, May 16, 10am-7pm and Saturday, May 17 to Sunday May 18, 10am to 3pm.
Entry fee is $15 for adults, $10 for children up to 16 and $10 for seniors.
