Leaving Party is proud to present Rageface as part of the Dunedin Fringe Festival 2014, an acerbic black comedy about the internet, real life, and one man's struggle to keep his life in balance.
Jason is a guy with a lot on his shoulders. He's an awkward university dropout, working a job he hates and living with a
flatmate with a hair-trigger temper. Frustrated with life, Jason frequently escapes to the only place he can be himself
- the Nothing is Original forums, an internet meeting-place for fans of popular culture and media. So when Jason falls
for Brie, a girl who works at his favourite video store, he immediately turns to the friends and followers he's
cultivated online. But a likable new poster with an encyclopaedic knowledge of My Little Pony is threatening his top dog
status, and his threads are dogged by a persistent troll. Under attack from all corners, Jason's internet life starts to
collapse around him - and it might just take his real life with it. Rageface is a black comedy about our relationship with the internet and anonymity, asking what happens when the fronts we put up
online start to clash with our lives offline.
Leaving Party is Adam Goodall, a Dunedin-based writer and director. His first play, Deadlines, was produced at BATS Theatre as part of the 2012 Young and Hungry Festival of New Works; his second play, Rageface, is being rebooted in Dunedin following an award-nominated*, critically- and publicly-acclaimed season by Wellington's
Making Friends Collective (of which Goodall is a founding member) in the 2013 New Zealand Fringe Festival.
